Our Projects - Ravensthorpe Nickel Mine (WA)

Mining operations are critical for innovation and modern industry. Today, the metals and minerals mined by hard working Australians are used to mint physical currency, power gas turbines, and even create metal wiring for electronics and sensitive equipment.

The Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation was developed for such a purpose. Producing thousands of tons of nickel, cobalt, and other minerals every year, this mining operation is an economic backbone for the people of Western Australia.

As of 2021, the Ravensthorpe nickel mine generates 12.695 thousand tonnes of nickel annually. The mine aims to safely extract necessary metals in the most efficient ways possible, providing people worldwide with a steady supply of critical raw materials.

Harvesting essential metals to support Australian industry

The Ravensthorpe nickel mine is located 40 km Southeast of the town of Ravensthorpe. The site was designed to create a steady supply of nickel and cobalt from three open-face pits. Situated on Halleys, Hale-Bopp, and Shoemaker-Levy deposits, the mine has a projected life span of 2050 – roughly 40 years from its opening date.

The site was not without its challenges. The Ravensthorpe nickel mine was put on care and maintenance in October 2017, reopening to full capacity as of 2020. It would require many labourers in various fields to restart previous operations, from general construction jobs to highly skilled machine operators.

Naturally, the Ravensthorpe nickel mine needed to reopen its doors in the most effective ways possible. To do this, the professionals at TradeConnex were contacted to provide continuous labour hire solutions.

Specialist recruitment for the Ravensthorpe nickel mine

TradeConnex was given the opportunity to provide skilled and generalised labour to the Ravensthorpe nickel mine, employing hundreds of specialists across a wide variety of sectors. Skilled workers such as machine operators and electricians worked to meet daily quotas and capacities, while scaffolding professionals built and maintained its foundations to ensure ongoing safety.

These duties were accomplished despite unexpected challenges, notably the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020. Our professional labourers navigated all changing elements of health and safety law while continuing to hit required benchmarks and complete their tasks effectively.

Operations at the Ravensthorpe nickel mine recommenced in late 2020, largely due to the labour hires provided by TradeConnex. Our team was honoured to be of assistance to such a vital industry, connecting great workers to significant positions that resulted in great outcomes. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with this client for many years.
